Harapan unveils its 'newest' candidate - Prabakaran

GE14 | Pakatan Harapan’s campaign for Batu finally took off today as it formally embraced independent candidate P Prabakaran as their own.
A rally in front of UTC Sentul today drew some 400 Harapan supporters, and saw several party leaders urging voters to back Prabakaran, in view of Harapan's candidate Tian Chua being disqualified.
A confident looking Prabakaran, 22, spoke for about two minutes, pledging a youth empowerment and anti-corruption policy platform.
"I am entering the political arena because I want to speak for youths... Old people always warn youths that politics is dirty.
"Therefore, the youths must clean it up because we are not corrupted.
"Parliament mostly has people who are 50 years old and above. The youths must take over Parliament," said the second-year law student, who will be using the 'key' symbol on the ballot paper.
He said he was happy that Chua, the two-term incumbent Batu MP, was willing to mentor him.
Earlier, Chua reiterated his commitment to the Batu constituency and promised to help Prabakaran in whatever way possible to dispense his duties as MP.
"I am committed to Batu! I am staying in Batu! I shall return!
"All of us must work hard. Help Praba, who is using the 'key' logo, win! When you see the 'key', you are looking at PKR's logo," he told the crowd.
'Voters waiting for signal'
On nomination day, Chua was disqualified from his candidacy by returning officer Anwar Md Zain, on grounds that he had been convicted and fined RM2,000.
This was despite the fact that a court ruling had ruled that only a fine of RM2,001 and above would result in him disqualified from being an MP.

Earlier today, Chua's bid to reverse Anwar's decision was rejected by the courts.
When approached later, Chua said if Prabakaran gets elected, he would match BN leader Najib Abdul Razak's record as the youngest person to become an MP.
"Najib became what he is today because he did not have a good mentor. I will be here to mentor Prabakaran," he quipped.
He added that Harapan supporters in Batu will get the message in time, despite the polls being just five days away.
"Batu voters know what is going on and are just waiting for our signal, they will reject BN," he said.
Prabakaran is going up against BN's Dominic Lau, PAS' Azhar Yahya and independent candidate M Panjamothy. Lau is the best known of all candidates as he is now the Gerakan vice-president. -Mkini
