Hindraf chairman P Waythamoorthy says the group will now work closely with Dr Mahathir Mohamad and other PH leaders to help the community.
PETALING JAYA: Pressure group Hindraf says the Indian community should not be worried after MIC’s devastating loss in the recent elections, which saw the defeat of both the MIC president Dr S Subramaniam and his deputy SK Devamany.
“Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has assured me that he would seriously address the issues of the Indian community and Hindraf believes he would honour his commitments,” said Hindraf chairman P Waythamoorthy in a statement.
“We will work closely with him and all Pakatan Harapan leaders to fulfil the aspirations of the people,” he said.
MIC won only two parliamentary seats out of the nine seats it contested.
He said Hindraf’s work campaigning for PH among the ethnic Indian voters in rural and semi-urban areas in Kedah, Perak, Negeri Sembilan and Johor had paid off.
“Hindraf is the only party that had been able to free the mindset of Indians in this country from being beholden to MIC and Umno. We are also the only party with a permanent and comprehensive plan for the community.
“Hence, the almost wiping out of MIC from the political landscape of Malaysia should be no loss to Indians,” said Waytha.
“On our part, Hindraf would continuously champion the chronic issues faced by the Indian community.” -FMT
