IGP: Altantuya case may be reopened if new leads surface

Investigations into the murder of Mongolian national Altantuya Shaariibuu might be re-opened if there are fresh leads, inspector-general of police Mohamad Fuzi Harun said.
“It depends on any new leads we get, and if there is any need to. We will consider opening (fresh investigations, if they are leads).
“But not at this moment,” Fuzi replied when asked if the case would be re-investigated during his press conference in Kuala Lumpur this morning.
On May 18, Mongolian president Khaltmaagiin Battulga urged Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad to help the family of Altantuya seek justice.
Fuzi also said the police are not investigating Umno supreme council member and former Tabung Haji chairperson Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim, whose houses and offices were raided by the MACC.
“At this moment, we have not received any order to run investigations (on Abdul Azeez).
“I have been informed that investigations are being done by MACC. We will allow MACC to investigate from their perspective and wait for further developments,” he added.
To another question, Fuzi (photo) said police are also not investigating MACC chief commissioner Mohd Shukri Abdull's claim that he was stalked while abroad when investigating the 1MDB scandal in 2015.
“Unless he lodges a fresh report on this,” Fuzi said.
No MH17 probe unless ministry orders
In light of fresh findings, Fuzi said that the police will begin investigations into Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 (MH17) if instructed to.
“The investigation team is made up of many teams, and we will await leads from the Transport Ministry.
“We will offer our full cooperation, that I can assure,” he said when asked.
Dutch investigators confirmed yesterday that the Russian missiles responsible for shooting down MH17 in 2014 had come from a Russian military unit.

In turn, Moscow has agreed to “analyse” the revelation. - Mkini
