IS UMNO A "LEGAL" POLITICAL SOCIETY?

Image result for UMNO deregistration

Is UMNO still a "legal" political society ?

Looking at the UMNO Constitution and Societies Act, UMNO should have been deregistered effective 20 April 2018.

UMNO failed to hold its Supreme Council and branch elections after obtaining permission to defer its party polls by 18 months in accordance to the UMNO Constitution, expiring 19 April 2018.

Yesterday, it was reported that UMNO Secretary-General Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor informed that the Registrar of Societies Malaysia (RoS) had giving a written permission to defer for the second time to hold their Supreme Council Elections upto 19 April 2019, although the UMNO Constitution does not allow such extensions.

The RoS does not have any inherent powers to give any society an extension in violation to its societies constitution.

The RoS is just a "administator" to ensure that societies abide by its constitution. If it fails to follow its societies constitution, the RoS need to deregister the society in accordance with the provisions of the Societies Act.

DO you still think UMNO is a "legal" political society?
