MIC president S Subramaniam has announced that he will be quitting politics after he was defeated in the 14th general election.
Subramaniam, a dermatologist, may return to practising medicine, according to The Star Online.
“When something ends, there will always be a beginning.
"I was already thinking that this would be my last term as I don’t want to be involved in politics in my 70s.
“The election results show that politics has ended earlier for me,” he was quoted as saying.
The three-term MP was defeated by PKR's Santhara Kumar by a 5,476-vote majority in the May 9 general election.
Subramaniam said voters in Segamat had considered factors beyond the constituency work he had provided when voting.
“If they cast votes based on performance, then rightfully they would have voted for me, but they saw things beyond performance," he said.
Subramaniam said BN must now reinvent itself. -Mkini
