The state constituency of Gambir here will be developed as a growth area in northern Johor.
Gambir assemblyperson Muhyiddin Yassin said Gambir has the potential to be developed as an industrial area to provide employment opportunities to residents here.
“Gambir as a new growth area is a pledge I made during the 14th general election, so we will find a suitable site in Gambir to develop as a new industrial centre,” he said when speaking at a breaking of fast in Masjid Jamek Bukit Gambir, Tangkak today.
Also present were his wife Norainee Abdul Rahman, Home Ministry secretary-general Alwi Ibrahim and Ledang MP Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh.
Muhyiddin who is also the MP for Pagoh and Home Minister said Johor Menteri Besar Osman Sapian had been informed of the proposal at the breaking of fast in Pagoh yesterday and Osman had agreed.
He said his team had identified a government-owned land for the purpose and may acquire a portion of the government land owned by large plantations in Gambir as an industrial area.
