Pakatan Harapan is bound by its election manifesto promise to carry out an investigation into 1MDB, says Mukhriz.
ALOR SETAR: Pakatan Harapan will take outgoing prime minister Najib Razak to court to fulfil its election promises of action against irregularities in 1MDB, said Kedah PH chairman Mukhriz Mahathir today.
He said the incoming PH federal government would abide by the rule of law should any action be contemplated against Najib.
Mukhriz, who is PPBM vice-president, said: “We are all about governance. We have to carry out proper governance.” He said they would take Najib to court and let the court process take its course.
Asked what he had to say to Barisan Nasional leaders, who suffered severe losses in the general election yesterday, Mukhriz said it was simply a case of “siapa makan cabai, dia rasa pedas” (whoever eats chilli will feel its heat).
“This is not about what they will have to go through after this, but rather what we have promised to the rakyat. This is why the rakyat have given us the mandate. One of the things we will do is to investigate 1MDB. Also, I believe that if we do not fulfil our promises, the rakyat will punish us,” he added.
Mukhriz’s comments came at a press conference today when he was asked if PH planned to have Najib arrested.
Pakatan Harapan comprises PKR, DAP, PPBM, and Parti Amanah Negara.
In its election manifesto, the coalition had promised to investigate the irregularities reported in 1Malaysia Development Berhad’s finances, in which billions of ringgit in funds were allegedly siphoned off.
Najib had previously denied any wrongdoing, and was also cleared of any wrongdoing by Attorney-General Mohamad Apandi Ali. -FMT
