GE14 | Former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak has reached out to congratulate newly-minted Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
"I just congratulated Mahathir on his appointment as the 7th prime minister.
"I am willing to assist with a smooth transition," Najib tweeted.
The Umno president was ousted from office after BN lost in the 14th general election to the Mahathir-led Pakatan Harapan.
Mahathir had vowed not to seek revenge on Najib.
However, should the former premier be found to have broken the law, he would have to face the consequences, Mahathir said at a press conference earlier in the day.
Najib has been dogged by the 1MDB affair in recent years, with allegations that he had received US$731 million misappropriated from the investment firm.
He denied any wrongdoing and had been cleared by attorney-general Mohamed Apandi Ali. -Mkini
