KUALA LUMPUR – Police raided the Bangi home of a high-level officer said to be close to former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak on Friday and Saturday. Sources said the officer was an influential woman and one of the leading people in the Research Department, which answered only to Najib when he was prime minister.
It was understood that Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) police raided the home in search of documents which were said to have been handed to the woman before the 14th general election.
However, no such documents were found on the premises.
A source said police believe the documents were being kept at one of the houses or buildings handled by the department.
“Police also raided two buildings under the department, one in Putrajaya and another in Jalan Bellamy, here,” said the source.
Though named the Research Department, it is understood that its members conducted intelligence gathering work, particularly on government critics both in the country and abroad.
“They only made their reports to the former prime minister,” said a source. Federal police CCID director Datuk Seri Amar Singh, when contacted, declined to comment.
