GE14 | Tuan Sabariah Tuan Ishak, the widow of former Kelantan menteri besar Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, has labelled her son Nik Omar "anak derhaka" (ungrateful child) for contesting as Pakatan Harapan's candidate in Chempaka.
In an edited video clip uploaded onto YouTube, Tuan Sabariah appears to say she had told Nik Omar to withdraw from his candidacy via text message on April 28.
"On the night (of the nomination day), I called but he didn’t answer. Then I sent the message, ‘Withdraw (from contesting), if not, then you will become an anak derhaka.
"Although one of my son supports Pakatan (Harapan), I will not follow because I have been long with Tok Guru (Nik Aziz)," she can be heard saying in the video.
It was reported yesterday that Tuan Sabariah has begun campaigning for PAS against her son in Chempaka.
Chempaka, a state seat within the Pengkalan Chepa parliamentary constituency, was held by Nik Aziz for five terms, from 1995 until his death in 2015.
For GE14, Nik Omar will be contesting in the state seat against PAS' Ahmad Fathan Mahmood and BN's Mohamed Fareez Noor Amran.
His brother, Nik Abduh, is contesting in the parliamentary seat of Bachok.
In the video, Tuan Sabariah can be heard elaborating on how she lost contact with her son on the eve of nomination day, with both Nik Omar's wife and son being in the dark over his whereabouts.
On nomination day, she said she was shown a video featuring her son marching to the nomination centre for PAS splinter party Amanah.
"An acquaintance showed up and said, 'Datin, please do not be surprised and accept the fact'... I was not that shocked as I expected my son to run away with Pakatan Harpan," she said.
She also recounted how she once told Nik Omar to reject Amanah, as Nik Aziz had died as a PAS man. - Mkini
