Not all are multi-billionaire sons of ex-PM – Vell Paari jabs Mokhzani

GE14 | MIC treasurer-general S Vell Paari has criticised former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad's son Mokhzani over his remarks regarding BR1M.
According to Vell Paari, the statement reeked of arrogance and showed how Mokhzani had lost touch with the common people.
“Everyone in Malaysia knows how Mokhzani made his billions. In fact, Anwar Ibrahim once said that Mokhzani's Kenchana Petroleum received most of the projects from Petronas.
“Mahathir was also once the advisor of Petronas,” he added in a statement this afternoon.
Vell Paari was responding to Mokhzani's remarks at a ceramah in Pendang, Kedah, last night, where the businessman said receiving BR1M was nothing to shout about.
“We can be proud and be like champions when we are rich. We can feel great with our own hard-earned money... It is not about people giving us money so we can survive. That is not greatness.
“We can feel proud when we are able to ensure our livelihood is taken care of, and we can take care of our own families,” he was quoted as saying by FMT.
Meanwhile, Vell Paari reminded Mokhzani to stop looking down and disrespecting those who received BR1M because not all are the multi-billionaire sons of a former prime minister.
“There are people in this country who work to find a living honestly and do need assistance from time to time.
“The government is aware of this and providing assistance to the rakyat accordingly. The amount of assistance might be nothing to Mokhzani but means a lot to the people in need,” he added.
Apart from this, Vell Paari also questioned the reason Pakatan Harapan has not committed itself to abolishing the financial handout in its manifesto.
The reason is simple, he said, because Harapan is aware that BR1M is a good initiative.
“Finally, I call upon Mokhzani to apologise to all Malaysians who are BR1M recipients as they do not deserve to be disrespected and ridiculed.
“These people are honest working men and women who require assistance which is being provided by the government,” he added. - Mkini
