Social media has been rife with speculation that Sabah and Sarawak leaders already chosen.
KOTA KINABALU: A Parti Warisan Sabah leader has rubbished rumours claiming a number of Warisan MPs have been named to helm various posts at the federal level.
Warisan permanent chairman VK Liew said some were also saying he had been appointed a minister.
“I wish to refute claims by certain irresponsible quarters that alleged MPs from Warisan have been given minister and deputy minister posts at the federal level.
”All sorts of fake news have been circulating on social media.”
One of the text messages claims Liew, who is Batu Sapi MP, had been named as a minister in the Prime Minister’s Department and Warisan deputy president Darell Leiking as trade and industry minister.
It also claimed three other leaders, including Warisan Youth chief Azis Jamman, had been appointed deputy ministers.
“Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has not named the second batch of his Cabinet lineup that will largely be drawn from MPs in Sabah and Sarawak,” Liew said.
He said he and Leiking, who is also Penampang MP, had represented Warisan president Shafie Apdal at the swearing-in ceremony of the first batch of Cabinet ministers at Istana Negara yesterday.
”I’ve been made to understand that the swearing-in of the second batch of federal ministers, involving both Sabah and Sarawak MPs, will be in about two weeks from now or earlier,” Liew said. -FMT
