MALACCA – Malacca Chief Minister Adly Zahary urged those who had removed facilities and other equipment from community halls in the state to return them immediately, to enable the local community to carry out activities without any problems.
He said he received reports on facilities at community halls, such as fans and chairs, being removed by the management of the previous state government.
Such actions is a loss for the people, he added.
“Community halls belong to the government. They are built using government funds, and also the facilities there are bought using the people’s money. They do not belong to any political party. We will discuss with the parties involved to return the items soon.
“All these facilities should be handed over to ruling government in good condition so that programmes that have been planned at the community halls can be carried out smoothly,” he told reporters after meeting residents of Kampung Baru in Ayer Keroh, here last night.
Adly said the state government had no problem if other political parties not affiliated with Pakatan Harapan wanted to use the community halls.
In another development, Adly said he was determined to reduce by about 50% the electricity bill at Seri Bendahara, which is the official residence of the Malacca Chief Minister.
He said the electricity bill at the Chief Minister’s official residence had amounted to about RM46,000 a month and the high bill was attributed to the centralised air-conditioning system.
“It (centralised air-conditioning system) is a waste, as we occupy only a fraction of the big house. Hence, I will instruct the Public Works Department to look at it so that we can minimise wastage and the people’s money can be saved,” he added.
Adly also said he would not change the furniture at the residence, despite suggestions from officers-in-charge.
