Palace okays pardons meet on Anwar, says PMO asked for postponement

The National Palace has greenlit the Pardons Board meeting on pardoning PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim tomorrow but a postponement was requested by the Prime Minister's Office (PMO).
According to a statement released by the palace, the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong was satisfied with all the procedures in relation to the Pardons Board proceeding for Anwar which was fixed for tomorrow at 11am.
"However, the PMO requested that the meeting is postponed to May 16 (Wednesday) at 11am.
"The Yang di-Pertuan Agong has consented to the request for the matter to be finalised on May 16, Wednesday, in conjunction with Ramadan," said Comptroller of the Royal Household, Wan Ahmad Dahlan.
Meanwhile, Anwar's lawyer R Sivarasa, who is the Sungai Buloh MP, also confirmed the postponement in a separate statement.
"The date of the meeting has been moved to Wednesday at the request of the PMO.
"Deputy prime minister-designate Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail has also just spoken to Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad in respect of this matter.
"The prime minister has given his assurance that the meeting of the Pardons Board will proceed as scheduled now at 11am, Wednesday, May 16," he said.
Sivarasa said he had also confirmed with solicitor-general II Zauyah Be Loth Khan that all documentation for the pardon petition was in order and complete.
"The petition is submitted by family members and is based on the ground that the conviction of Anwar is a miscarriage of justice, and secondly, on his current health situation," he said.
Anwar is serving a jail sentence for sodomy, a charge he claimed was politically motivated.
He is presently held at the Cheras Rehabilitation Centre while recovering from a shoulder surgery. -Mkini
