Three Perak PAS assemblypersons met the state ruler Sultan Nazrin Shah this morning, with a menteri besar expected to be sworn in by 5pm today – provided either Pakatan Harapan or BN can prove that they have the seats required to form the state government.
Kubu Gajah assemblyperson Khalil Yahaya, along with Mohd Akmal Kamaruddin (Selama) and Razman Zakaria (Gunung Semanggol), arrived at Istana Kinta this morning, at around 9.30am.
With Harapan getting 29 seats in Wednesday's polls, and BN 27, PAS now finds itself in the position of kingmaker, as its three seats can give either side the 30 required for a simple majority in the state assembly.
No BN assemblypersons were seen entering the palace today, save for the vehicle of caretaker menteri besar Zambry Abd Kadir at 10.50am.
At 12pm, Pakatan Harapan representatives arrived to meet the sultan. Bernama, Astro and RTM photographers were allowed to enter the palace at 11.40am.
Earlier, Istana Kinta spokeperson Mohd Annuar Zaini had told the media that the sultan would not be meeting with BN assemblypersons in the morning, but at 2pm.
It was reported yesterday that Perak Harapan had met the sultan, who offered them the first option to form the state government if they could prove they have sufficient seats by 2pm today.
The sultan had also asked BN to bring along 30 assemblypersons to meet him today.
According to Annuar, the swearing in ceremony will be held at 5pm, with the related invitations having been sent out.
"The sultan hopes that we can set up a state government as soon as possible," he said.
Harapan looking for defectors?
Rumours are circulating that Harapan is attempting to coax some Umno assemblypersons to join the coalition.
Zambry’s communication director Nizam Isa, however, announced on Thursday night that BN already has enough seats to form the state government, and would meet the sultan to seek his consent on the matter.
A total of 30 seats are required for a simple majority in the 59-seat state assembly. - Mkini
