Perak Pakatan given first opportunity to form state government

IPOH: Perak Pakatan Harapan will be given the first opportunity to form the state government, on condition that they must have a simple majority of 30 state seats.

State National Council (Dewan Negara Negeri) member Datuk Seri Annuar Zaini said that Pakatan were granted the first opportunity because they had the most number of state seats with 29.

He said this outside Istana Kinta here Friday (May 11) after a meeting between the Perak ruler Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah and four representatives of Pakatan.

The four were the respective party chiefs, Ahmad Faizal Azumu (Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia), Nga Kor Ming (DAP), Dr Mohd Nor Monutty (PKR) and Asmuni Awi (Amanah).

However, he said that Pakatan must show they can obtain a simple majority to form the state government.

"This is because earlier in the morning (May 11), the Sultan received a letter from Barisan Nasional saying it has a simple majority of 30 seats, 27 from Barisan and three from PAS, which means they have the numbers.

"The Sultan will, however, need to confirm this and has asked Barisan to bring all 30 state assemblymen to him on Saturday (May 12)," he said.

Annuar said Pakatan had requested to have until 2pm Saturday (May 12) to prove that they have the numbers.

"If Pakatan do not have the simple majority, then the Sultan will not want to delay the formation of the state government.

"If they can, then the Sultan will re-consider the matter," he said, adding that this was the second meeting between Sultan Nazrin and both sides.

"The Sultan needs to act based on the state constitution," he added.- Star
