Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has announced that the new government has established 10 ministries which are crucial and the names of the ministers will be revealed tomorrow.
He said Pakatan Harapan has decided that a small cabinet comprising important portfolios is sufficient at present.
“We do not want to have a huge cabinet, but there are certain ministries which need to be filled immediately,” he told a press conference at Yayasan Albukhary in Kuala Lumpur today.
The 10 ministries are as follows:
1. Finance Ministry
2. Home Affairs Ministry
3. Defence Ministry
4. Education Ministry
5. Rural Development Ministry
6. Economy Ministry
7. Works Ministry
8. Transport Ministry
9. Multimedia, Science and Tech Ministry
10. Foreign Ministry
Mahathir clarified that the sequence of these ministries does not mean one is more important than the other, as they are all of equal status.
“Quite obviously, certain ministries will play a more prominent role,” he added.
He also said the four component parties in Pakatan Harapan are being given time today to discuss which ministries they want to be in, as well as their proposed candidates.
“It doesn’t mean their proposals will be all accepted,” he noted.
He insisted that all parties in Harapan are united and equal, with no “junior or senior” parties.
Hence, he said, all parties will have equal representation on the cabinet. - Mkini
