Police probes Mahathir for 'fake news'

GE14 | Police are investigating Pakatan Harapan chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad for allegedly spreading fake news.
This was confirmed by Kuala Lumpur police chief Mazlan Lazim, who said it was one of eight police reports lodged during the 14th general election campaign period.
"For the case on the fake news, it involves a claim by Mahathir that the jet which he had chartered to fly to Langkawi was sabotaged last Friday," he was quoted as saying by Bernama.
The Anti-Fake News Act 2018, which Mahathir is being investigated under, carries a jail sentence of up to six years or a fine of RM500,000 or both.
He said the other police reports concern trespassing, holding a ceramah without permit and mischief involving fire.
Last Friday, Mahathir who was to depart from Subang airport could not do so after the aircraft he charted faced tyre problems.
He later travelled on another aircraft after seeking help from a friend.
Upon arriving in Langkawi, Mahathir claimed the aircraft was sabotaged to thwart his Langkawi candidacy the following day.  -Mkini
