Prices never go down, says BN’s Langkawi candidate

BN candidate says it is normal for prices to go up, saying that has been the case since the days of the Japanese occupation.

LANGKAWI: The prices of goods will always be going up no matter what the circumstances, the Langkawi Barisan Nasional candidate Nawawi Ahmad said today.
Prices could not remain stagnant, whether over decades or years, and he said this has been the case since the days of the Japanese occupation of Malaya during the Second World War.
“Price increases have nothing to do with BN, but are simply a basic rule of economics. Because of the economic formula, every year, the prices of goods will go up.
“When do you ever see prices of goods come down? It always goes up,” he said, adding that in tandem with the increase, salaries had generally gone up as well.
Complaints about the BN government failing to deal with rising prices have been a feature of the general election campaign, with particular blame being laid on the imposition of the goods and services tax (GST) since April 2015.
Nawawi reiterated the need for the people to choose the party instead of candidate in the general election. It was the party that was able to carry out development whereas a candidate, on his own, would not be able to do so.
“The opposition candidate (Dr Mahathir Mohamad) is old. If people want to vote, they should vote for those who have the energy and are able to work for them. Even if we love Mahathir, that should not mean a vote for him. We just love him as an elderly person and a former leader,” he said.
Nawawi expressed confidence that BN would be able to retain the Langkawi parliamentary seat, Ayer Hangat and Kuah state seats, and remain in power in Kedah when polling closes on May 9.
In the contest for Langkawi, Mahathir and Nawawi are being challenged by Zubir Ahmad of PAS. -FMT
