Bags of cash had begun arriving at the police's CCID headquarters in the city, as part of detailing evidence following raids in properties linked to former PM.
KUALA LUMPUR: Police have completed counting millions of ringgit worth of cash which was filled in at least 11 of the more than 70 luggages seized from several properties linked to former prime minister Najib Razak.
Berita Harian reports that Bukit Aman’s Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) completed counting less than half of the 26 bags brought to its headquarters in Menara KPJ in Jalan Tun Razak last night.
The paper said the cash-filled bags were brought into the building accompanied by the police Special Action Unit from Bukit Aman. After 11 bags were taken into account, the remaining 15 were tranferred back into a police truck.
The counting, which started at 10am yesterday, could take a long time to complete as there were also foreign currencies, it reported. Police also had to note down the serial number of every note for the purpose of presenting it as evidences later.
Last Friday, police had seized 72 bags from three units at the Pavilion Residences in Jalan Bukit Bintang, as part of a corruption investigation into the former prime minister.
For days, police have been in an out of Najib’s private residence in Taman Duta.
He is to appear at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission in Putrajaya this morning, to answer questions related to RM42 million linked to SRC International, as part of an investigation on 1MDB.
Meanwhile, BH said that a bank has been appointed to carry out a recount of jewellery and gold bars seized during checks at Najib’s properties.
Police had also seized dozens of luxury handbags and watches from Najib’s house in Taman Duta. -FMT
