GE14 | Parti Warisan Sabah president Mohd Shafie Apdal claimed he has been approached by Barisan National with offers of various posts in an attempt to get the former to join them.
“The other side (BN) has been trying to pull me over with all sorts of things (such as government) positions.
“But why would I need positions? I’ve said it before, once I’ve decided, I have decided,” he told reporters at his home last night.
Shafie added that whatever he chose to do, it was all with the people of Sabah in mind, stating "I’ve said I will serve my people come what may.”
Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad had last night claimed there had been attempts to buy over Warisan elected representatives, leading to the imbroglio in Sabah.
This led to Shafie being prevented from presenting his party to the state governor as the winners of the election.
Sabah BN won 29 state seats in the 14th general election, the same number of seats won collectively by Warisan and its electoral partners DAP and PKR.
However, the power shifted when Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (Star) decided to cooperate with BN, effectively adding two more seats to the latter's tally, thereby enabling it to form a state government with a simple majority.
Meanwhile, asked in a press conference today whether he would accept posts by the Pakatan Harapan government instead, reiterating that his priority was towards Sabahans.
“It (federal government position) is not my priority,” he said.
Shafie previously served as the rural and regional development minister under BN, when he was in Umno. - Mkini
