KUALA LUMPUR – Perlis Barisan Nasional(BN) chairman Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim would most likely get away with just a slap on the wrist after jumping the gun and announcing the expulsion of Datuk Azlan Man from Umno last Friday, said party supreme council member Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz.
“Now is not the time to be discussing what action should or should not be taken.
“But if there is action to be taken, at worst it would just be a reprimanding,” Mohamed Nazri told Malay Mail in reference to the unofficial announcement of the Perlis Mentri Besar supposedly being expelled from the party.
Mohamed Nazri, a former Tourism and Culture minister agreed with fellow supreme council member Datuk Ab Aziz Kaprawi that Shahidan’s announcement on Azman’s expulsion did not represent the party’s stand.
“It is not legitimate, a communications chief cannot just declare a person as expelled, “said Nazri in reference to Shahidan’s position as Perlis Umno communications chairman.
“He can certainly recommend for the expulsion, but the final decision is by the disciplinary board of the party,” said Mohamed Nazri.
On Friday, Shahidan announced the expulsion of Azlan from the party.
Supreme council member Ab Aziz in his response to Malay Mail said the expulsion was illegitimate, amid tensions with the formation of the state government.
