Neither Jeffrey nor the MACC can be reached for confirmation.
KOTA KINABALU: Anti-graft officers are believed to have raided Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR) president Jeffrey Kitingan’s house in Sabah’s interior Keningau district.
However, neither Jeffrey nor the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) could be immediately reached for confirmation.
According to sources, the raid took place last night. It is also believed that MACC officers are checking Jeffrey’s residence near the city here.
It is learnt that the investigations are linked to alleged corrupt practices in the recent general election.
Jeffrey and fellow STAR candidate Robert Tawik both managed to secure wins in the May 9 polls, winning the Tambunan and Bingkor state seats respectively. Both are rural seats under the Keningau federal constituency.
With Barisan Nasional (BN) and Parti Warisan Sabah-Pakatan Harapan (PH) initially tied at 29 seats, STAR emerged the kingmakers, joining forces with BN and allowing Sabah BN chairman Musa Aman to be sworn in as chief minister on May 10.
However, Warisan president Shafie Apdal was sworn in as chief minister on May 12, following defections from Umno and Upko to the Warisan-PH fold.
Meanwhile, a party member revealed that MACC had also raided Tawik’s home as well as the STAR office last night.
The source, who requested anonymity, said Jeffrey had been told to go to the MACC office to give a statement.
“They were at his house in Likas around 12 midnight last night, and at our office around 10.30pm.
“I was told they took some money, about RM80,000 but could not find a link between that the RM20 million so-called bribe money,” the source said.
He told FMT he had heard talk that the homes of other Supreme Council members were also raided, and that some had been summoned to the MACC office for questioning on the party’s finances. -FMT
