Lim Kit Siang opined that the case of Teoh Beng Hock, along with other cases of alleged "injustices" which have resulted in deaths, should be reopened.
In a statement, the DAP veteran said this was so justice can finally be done in the nine-year-old case.
This came after acting Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi called for all quarters to respect the ongoing MACC probe against ousted prime minister Najib Abdul Razak on the 1MDB scandal, as long as it is being conducted appropriately, and within appropriate hours.
"If this rule (of probes to be conducted within appropriate hours) had been strictly observed, Teoh Beng Hock would not have died at the Selangor MACC premises in Shah Alam on July 16, 2009, and (be) still awaiting justice for nearly nine years – the reason why the Teoh Beng Hock case, like many other cases of injustices resulting in death, should be re-opened for justice to be finally done," Lim said.
Teoh, the political aide to Seri Kembangan assemblyperson Ean Yong Hian Wah, was found dead after falling nine floors from MACC's previous Selangor headquarters in 2009 where he had been held overnight for interrogation.
In 2014, the Court of Appeal had overturned the coroner's open verdict in Teoh's death, ruling instead that the latter died from a fall that could have been accelerated by unlawful actions of persons unknown, including by MACC officers.
The court ordered the police to investigate the death, however, the Attorney-General's Chambers found no criminal elements in his death.
Lim's call has come in the wake of several others seeking the murder case of Mongolian national Altantuya Shaariibuu be reopened by the new Pakatan Harapan government.
This include Mongolian president Khaltmaagiin Battulga and former Federal Court judge Gopal Sri Ram. - Mkini
