GE14 | BN chairperson Najib Abdul Razak has alleged that Pakatan Harapan is bussing in supporters to their ceramah ahead of the coming polls to show that the public is on their side.
According to a report in Utusan Malaysia, he insisted that BN does not have to resort to such tactics because it has genuine local support.
“They are bringing in outsiders by bus and then claiming that they have public support.
“But for us over here, I don’t see any buses, but look at the support we receive, everyone here today is a genuine supporter (of BN),” he was quoted as saying at an event in Kepala Batas.
Najib was referring to a ceramah in Putrajaya last Friday, which saw Harapan chair Dr Mahathir Mohamad appearing alongside the candidate for Chempaka, Nik Omar Nik Abdul Aziz.
Malaysiakini had reported that an estimated 4,000 people filled up the car park of the Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Mosque to attend the 'Ceramah Kebangkitan Rakyat', while a further 50,000 watched the event live on Mahathir’s Facebook page.
According to Najib, the majority of those who attended the ceramah were not civil servants based in Putrajaya, but outsiders.
A large turnout for Harapan was also seen in Bukit Katil yesterday, with a ceramah perdana featuring Mahathir alongside former ministers Rafidah Aziz and Daim Zainuddin attracting a crowd of about 10,000.
Though not in attendance, Rais Yatim – another Umno veteran vocal of the caretaker Najib administration – tweeted about the event, saying that a sea of people had come out in Malacca to show their support for Harapan.
It was reported earlier today that Rafidah, Daim and Rais were sacked from Umno, though the party later clarified that Rais is only being investigated for supporting the opposition. - Mkini
