SUNGAI BESAR: Umno defector Muslimin Yahya, who contested under Pakatan Harapan's banner, has won the Sungai Besar parliamentary seat by a narrow 714-vote majority.
Muslimin, 51, who had joined PKR days before contesting the seat, received 17,350 votes while incumbent Budiman Mohd Zohdi, 46, of Barisan Nasional (Umno) received 16,636 votes.
PAS candidate Mohamed Salleh Husin, 70, received 7,220 votes compared to the more than 18,000 votes he received in the last general election in 2013.
Meanwhile, Pakatan Harapan (DAP) incumbent candidate Ng Suee Lim, 47, won the Sekinchan state seat with a greater majority..
PAS religious teacher Ustaz Fadzin Taslimin, 69, received 2,351 votes.
The Sungai Panjang state seat fell to lawyer Datuk Mohd Imran Tamrin, 32, from Umno.
He won with a 2,084 vote-majority, garnering 10,530 votes against Parti Amanah Negara candidate Mariam Abdul Rashid, 57, who received 8446 votes.
PAS' Mohd Razali Saari, 36, received 6,999 votes.
Returning officer Mohd Khairuddin Md Som, who announced the results, said the whole counting process in Dewan Seri Bernam had gone smoothly.- Star
