We want Jamal to turn himself in, says Selangor police chief

PETALING JAYA: Selangor’s top cop wants Datuk Seri Jamal Yunos, who went missing during the bail process for a criminal case, to turn himself in and settle “unfinished business”.
However at press time, there was still no sign of the Sungai Besar Umno division chief, with his residence in Ampang noticeably without cars.
The house, which is equipped with security cameras, also seemed empty except for an on-duty security guard who quickly ushered in a worker without speaking to the press.

Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Mazlan Mansor didn’t mince his words when contacted about the controversial politician..
However, an audio recording of Jamal claiming it was all a misunderstanding was released to the media yesterday.
“I thought I could leave because my remand order was over and that my bail had been granted.
“I did not realise that I had to sign some documents before the bail could be finalised,” Jamal said.
He explained that he had not intended to run away, but was merely rushing to Tabung Haji so that he could withdraw cash to settle his bail payment.
“I left in a hurry because I was afraid that it (Tabung Haji) might close before I got there,” he said, adding that he only realised he was wanted by the police later.
“I am resting now due to my health condition and I will cooperate fully with the police soon,” he said.
Jamal’s other home in Sekinchan for now also appears empty.
The Red Shirts leader was under police remand at the Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital’s premium ward, where he was undergoing treatment for back pain, when he escaped from police custody on Friday.
The 48-year-old was charged earlier with public nuisance for breaking bottles of alcohol in public to protest the Better Beer Festival 2017.
The offence carries a fine of RM400.
According to the charge sheet, Jamal committed the offence at Bangunan Darul Ehsan at 10.15am on Oct 5, 2017.
He pleaded not guilty in the hospital’s ward before magistrate Raja Noor Adilla Raja Mahyaldin.
The court granted bail of RM3,000 in one surety and set June 8 for mention at the Shah Alam magistrate court.- Star
