WILL THERE BE JUSTICE FOR KEVIN MORAIS – ONLY GANI PATAIL KNOWS: SARAWAK REPORT STICKS BY CLAIM MURDERED DPP WAS THE ONE WHO DREW UP CHARGE SHEET TO ARREST NAJIB

PETALING JAYA – Sarawak Report editor Clare Rewcastle-Brown says she was told that murdered senior deputy public prosecutor Kevin Morais was the person who drew up the charge sheet against former prime minister Najib Razak.
“All the information I have is that Kevin drew up the charge sheet,” she told FMT when asked about a report that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) had dismissed any notion that the 2015 murder of Morais was linked to 1MDB.
MACC chief Mohd Shukri Abdull had told a press conference earlier today that “as far as I know, Kevin Morais has nothing to do with the 1MDB case”.
Rewcastle-Brown told Malay Mail in a recent interview that “a few reliable sources” told her it was Morais who fed her the information about the investigation and leaked what was allegedly a charge sheet on Najib over the misappropriation at former 1MDB subsidiary SRC International.
She had said she was contacted directly by a person who had prepared the charge sheet.
“I think it was Kevin Morais,” she had said when asked how she had acquired the highly confidential information.
The London-based editor had said that she had enough people, who she could not quote, who confirmed it was Kevin Morais.
In 2015, Morais’s brother, Charles, issued a statutory declaration alleging his brother was responsible for drafting the charge sheets against Najib and that he had then sent copies of the charge sheets to Sarawak Report.
The papers were reportedly sent the day after Najib removed then attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail and several members of his government in what was been seen as an attempt to pre-empt his purported arrest.
Charles told reporters then that he did not believe the official narrative explaining the kidnapping and strangling of his brother, which was said to be in relation to a separate bribery case and for which several men were now facing trial.
Kevin Morais was believed to have been kidnapped on Sept 4, 2015 and strangled to death before his body was placed in a drum filled with concrete. It was found on Persiaran Subang Mewah, Subang Jaya, two weeks after he was reported missing.
Rewcastle-Brown has urged Malaysian authorities to launch a fresh and ”deeper” investigation.
