The Muar MP says the National Civics Bureau has deviated from its founding principles and has been manipulated for political purposes.
KUALA LUMPUR: PPBM Youth chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman has applauded the suggestion for the National Civics Bureau (BTN) to be scrapped, saying the body has deviated from the principles for which it was set up.
He said BTN was initially aimed at raising the level of patriotism in the country, but had been manipulated for political purposes.
“I see it as a medium to strengthen a political party by inciting one community to hate other races, and I feel its original aim is lost.
“Because of this, I think BTN is no longer needed,” he told reporters at Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman here yesterday.
Syed Sadidiq, who is also Muar MP, was commenting on the proposal by Setiawangsa MP Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad to close down BTN.
Nik Nazmi reportedly described the bureau as “very biased and toxic in nature towards true national unity”, saying it still operated within a “Cold War framework” although the world had changed. -FMT
