Yoursay: Something fishy is going on in Sekinchan

YOURSAY | ‘If this is not vote-buying, then what is?’
Kim Quek: Section 10 of the Election Offences Act 1954 statesthat any person who, among others, promises any money to induce any voter to vote at any election shall be deemed guilty of the offence of bribery.
The punishment for the offence is not more than two years’ imprisonment and a fine not exceeding RM5,000.
It looks like Umno Sungai Besar chief Jamal Md Yunos openly committed the above offence at a public gathering in Sekinchan on April 30, witnessed by BN Sekinchan candidate Lee Yee Yuan, Sungai Panjang candidate Mohd Imran Tamrin, and Sungai Besarincumbent MP Budiman Zohdi. and 800 fisherfolk.
The Election Commission (EC) and MACC have the duty to make sure Jamal is charged under the Act. But he won’t be.
Machiave11i: If this is not an election offence, then I don’t know what is. Oh wait, yes - showing the photo of a respected leader and elder statesman is an election offence.
Newday: Jamal is testing the limits. Not only was he blatant about the bribe, he actually went out of his way to repeat himself by saying “I am not lying” about the RM2,000 handout for votes.
It seems like he is above the law.
Go Go Go: MCA is party to the crime committed in Sekinchan. Not only did they witness it, they stand to benefit directly from it.
They are part of the problem. Vote them out, destroy them at the ballot box.
Kikyo: Bribery is a serious crime, and yet the attitude of Jamal and the MCA lackeys doing it so openly reminds us why change in the 14th general election is necessary and imminent.
Wg321: This shows where we’re at as a country. In the old days, corruption was done under the table. Today, corruption is practised above the table. Why is the MACC keeping quiet on an open act of bribery?
Jamal, through his actions, is sending a message to all Malaysians that if my boss can do it, why can't I?
The disease of corruption is extremely contagious. All those involved in it are malignant tumours that must be removed.
Anonymous_1419577444: Imagine how quickly the MACC and EC would come down on any Pakatan Harapan leader who even dream of doing what Jamal did.
True Glitter: Never in our wildest dreams could we anticipate the abysmal level of shameless arrogance and insensitive defiance to which Umno’s Jamal would descend to insult the dignity and integrity of Sekinchan voters.
Public disgust towards this obnoxious clown is further compounded by the blatant absence of any legal action taken by the MACC or EC, both of which have been overly punitive with their hair-trigger responses to even the slightest hint of impropriety.
The shameless financial enticement by the seemingly untouchable Jamal should serve as an eye-opener to all right-thinking Malaysians to rid the country of the insurmountable corruption now plaguing it.
Anonymous_534b7352: Jamal is not just an Umno member, he is the embodiment of everything wrong with Umno. A disgrace to society.
Anonymous_1421806811: If I were the fishermen, I would ask for the RM2,000 upfront.
Otherwise, he would probably give them mock cheques, like he did with his ‘RM7 billion donation’ to Bersatu.
Change For Good: Sekinchan voters should eat and take whatever Umno and BN have to offer.
Anyway, all the monies spent belong to Malaysian taxpayers. Therefore, after eating and taking the gifts, just vote Harapan.
XED: Remember Jamal’s “Cina babi” insult. Then ask whether you still want his handouts.
Jamal is foolish enough to think that it is not wrong of BN to offer - on behalf of an unnamed donor - money to voters.
Ask yourself, if this man and his friends are so stupid, then why would you want to put them in charge to send the country even further into infamy?
Anonymous: I doubt the people of Sekinchan will fall for the nonsense this circus reject is promising.
The same happened in Penang for GE14, with BN candidates offering sumptuous dinner and lucky draws, and even flying in a Korean singer to draw the crowd, but in the end, the state still voted for the opposition.
Wira: Come to Penang, Jamal and gang. The election here is so dull without 1MDB money.
Anonymous 2440681500979251: Are these gimmicks legal? Isn’t dishing out money and gifts in return for a favour corruption? If promising someone RM2,000 if they vote for a candidate is not corruption, what is?
I thought there is a recent task force comprising the police, EC and MACC that was set up to prevent such abuse? - Mkini
