Doctors have advised him against having visitors for now.
PETALING JAYA: PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim is undergoing treatment for severe prolapsed disc after he was rushed to hospital in an ambulance yesterday.
A statement from his family said doctors were currently monitoring and evaluating his condition.
“His family is with him at the moment and remain grateful for all the concern, doa and support received.
“We have been advised to request that our father not receive any visitors as he undergoes the necessary observation and treatment,” the statement read.
Anwar was rushed to Universiti Malaya Medical Centre from his house in Bukit Segambut yesterday after complaining of shoulder pain.
It was understood that Anwar and his wife Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, who is also the deputy prime minister, were supposed to have attended a Hari Raya open house hosted by PKR’s Petaling Jaya MP Maria Chin Abdullah and Taman Medan state assemblyman Syamsul Firdaus Mohamed Supri.
Anwar had undergone treatment at the Cheras Rehabilitation Hospital before his release on May 16.
Anwar, named as prime minister-in-waiting, underwent a surgery on his right shoulder in March.
He had also undergone an “arthroscopic” treatment in November last year, two months after he was involved in an accident when an escort vehicle had hit the back of the prison car transporting him from Hospital Kuala Lumpur back to the Sungai Buloh Prison, where he served his jail sentence. - FMT
