PKR deputy president Azmin Ali said the appointment of Amirudin Shari as Selangor menteri besar was achieved through consensus, contrary to what was claimed by Ijok assemblyperson Dr Idris Ahmad.
“I don’t want to be involved in this polemic. Discussions were carried out smoothly and it was done in the spirit of consensus to ensure continuity,” said Azmin briefly after the swearing-in ceremony today.
Idris had made the allegation during a press conference at his home in Petaling Jaya today, an hour before Amirudin was sworn in as the 16th menteri besar of Selangor.
Idris, a second-term assemblyperson, also showed letters by the leaders of the Selangor chapter of Bersatu, DAP and Amanah supporting his appointment.
Another letter backing Idris was signed by PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
In all four letters which were signed earlier this month, Idris’ name was the sole nominee from each party.
Earlier, there were claims that PKR had nominated three-term Sungai Tua assemblyperson Amirudin and first-term Shaharuddin Badaruddin as candidates for the post.
Azmin was sworn-in as menteri besar on May 11 but he had to vacate the position after he accepted an appointment to Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s cabinet.
According to Idris, Azmin’s swearing-in as menteri besar too was allegedly done without consensus among Harapan parties. However, it is understood that incumbent chief executives for each state were meant to continue with their roles upon re-election. - Mkini
