KUALA LUMPUR – A construction company, Synergy Promenade Sdn Bhd, is suing former Felda chairman Tan Sri Shahrir Samad for a whopping RM100 million in damages for alleged defamation.
It is demanding an apology according to terms agreed on, damages of RM100 million as well as an injunction against more media statements that could damage the reputation of the company through the legal firm Reza Hashim and Rajivan.
“We are suing him on his personal capacity to hold his accountable for the statements he has made to the media that has damaged our client’s reputation,” lawyer Mohamed Reza Hashim told reporters at the High Court here today.
Shahrir is said to have made the claims between December 2017 and March this year.
Reza said the suit was over statements made regarding the land parcels, located in Jalan Semarak, Kuala Lumpur, which is estimated to be worth RM270 million.
The ownership of the land was reportedly transferred to Synergy Promenade Sdn Bhd in 2015.
Shahrir had said Felda had immediately placed private caveats on the lands involved after discovering the transfer.
It has been reported that the land parcel was earmarked for Kuala Lumpur Vertical City (KLVC) development project.
“We want to make him accountable to what he said to the media which was a misrepresentation of facts,” Reza added.
Shahrir has left Felda on May 14, soon after Pakatan Harapan won GE14.
