Former Negeri MB applies to strike out Streram's election petition

Former Negeri Sembilan menteri besar Mohamad Hasan has applied to strike out the election petition filed by PKR candidate Dr S Streram for the Rantau state seat in the Rembau parliamentary constituency.
This was disclosed to election judge Azimah Omar at the High Court in Seremban during case management today.
Lawyer Abu Bakar Isa Ramat from the firm of Mohd Hafarizam Harun, Wan Aisha and Mubarak, represented Mohamad, while Sreekant Pillai acted for Streram.
Sreekant told Malaysiakini that Mohamad's lawyers had yet to extract the document following the filing made yesterday and hence, the reason for striking out is not known as the documents had not been served on him.
Sreekant said Justice Azimah has fixed July 10 for case management.
In his petition, Streram named Mohamad and Amino Agus Suyub, the returning officer for Rantau state seat, and the Election Commission as respondents.
The EC and Amino are no longer represented by the Attorney- General's Chambers and they will have to appoint lawyers to appear for them.

The PKR member claimed he was wilfully obstructed and thereafter systematically deprived of submitting his nomination papers for the Rantau state seat in the 14th general election (GE14).
Lawyer Mohd Hafarizam Harun, when met by reporters at a different court proceeding, confirmed his firm is representing Mohamad, and three other BN-linked election petition cases.
Besides the Rantau case, his firm is also representing petitioner Abdul Razak Abdul Rahman from Umno for the Telok Mas state seat in Malacca, as well as MIC's Sivaraajh for the Cameron Highlands parliament seat and Jempol's Mohd Salim Sharif (Umno).
A total of 24 election petitions have been filed in the days after the 14th general election.
Last week, newly appointed attorney-general Tommy Thomas announced that his chambers would not be representing the EC in any election petition cases.  -Mkini
