I woke up this morning feeling so chirpy. I managed to complete four cryptic crossword puzzles last night. My granddaughter won yet another prize to add to her mushrooming collection, and Malaysians are beginning to lick the trillion rinngit deficit.
Then I read the headlines.
The nine rulers, in their wisdom are attempting to block the appointment of an eminent lawyer as the next attorney-general because he is not a Malay-Muslim. Suddenly the euphoria of the 14th general election results came crashing down with a huge thud.
What?
The United States had Barack Obama, a descendant of a slave, as its president for two terms from 2009 to 2017, and here in Malaysia, not all citizens can aspire to be the next attorney-general, let alone the prime minister.
Has my ruler betrayed the concept of a unified state to join in this last-ditch attempt at preserving that odious concept called "ketuanan Melayu" and consign me to remain a second-class citizen?
I feel sad and in this moment of reflection, I weep. - Mkini
