BN component parties should hold a supreme council meeting to decide on whether to expel Umno instead of leaving the coalition, said Gerakan Youth chief Andy Yong.
He pointed out that each component party president in BN has a vote with regard to the highest body decision-making process.
“One needs to understand that BN doesn't belong to Umno but the component parties.
“It had been a mistake to allow Umno to dominate most of the high positions of BN in the past such as deputy chairperson, secretary-general, and treasurer-general,” he added in a statement.
This, Yong said, may have been a factor in arrogance among some Umno leaders.
"Contemporary Umno is caught in a serious situation of its own making, especially with its arrogance and money politics.
"With the possible line-up of their new leadership (as reported), it is sceptical that they can win back the support from the majority of Malaysians, especially the urbanites in the near future," said Yong.
Yong's statement comes in the wake of the announcement by Sarawak chief minister Abang Johari Abang Openg earlier today, that four BN component parties in the state - Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Sarawak United Peoples' Party (SUPP), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) and People's Democratic Party (PDP) are leaving BN. - Mkini
