Serve the rakyat, Shahrizat tells Noraini, Umno Wanita

Former Umno Wanita chief Shahrizat Abdul Jalil has congratulated her successor Noraini Ahmad on her victory in the party wings' election.

Asked what the most important order of business Noraini and her team had to get down to, Shahrizat told Malaysiakini, "Serve, serve, serve the rakyat."

Noraini won the post over two others. The new vice-chief is Norliza Rahim.

Shahrizat, who did not contest in the party elections, said Noraini was well qualified to lead the wing.

"She has what it takes to lead Wanita in these very challenging times. She has the experience and qualifications.

"She has her feet on the ground. She understands the changes she must make," Shahrizat said.

She added that Noraini had been part of her succession plan for some time, and was handpicked to become BN Wanita assistant secretary in 2013.

Noraini is a three-term Parit Sulong MP, and the first Malaysian to be elected as the chair of the Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians (CWP) steering committee.
