Set up arts council, Siti Nurhaliza tells gov't

Acclaimed songstress Siti Nurhaliza Tarudin has reiterated her support for the government to set up an arts council as a way to improve the overall entertainment industry.
"I will support if it is for the good of the industry," she told reporters when met after meeting with the Council of Eminent Persons at Ilham Tower in Kuala Lumpur this afternoon.
The singer and business mogul had first mooted the idea of a dedicated centre for the arts in welcoming the formation of the new Pakatan Harapan government last month.
Since then, Karyawan president Freddie Fernandez who represented some 6,000 artists from various fields had last week also raised a similar idea during his meeting with the council.
Commenting further, Siti said she had a good discussion with the council members and received a positive response.
"I will not speak in detail about my proposals. They are not personal in nature, but for the good of the industry as a whole," said Siti who was all smiles as she left the building.
While the proposal covered various fields of the arts, the multi-platinum award winner added that her focus today was more on the music industry and how it could be improved.
She said she will also submit a written memorandum on all five proposals she brought up in the hour-long meeting with the council today.
"I will have to write it all down and submit it the soonest," said Siti who arrived for the meeting at close to noon and left some two hours later. - Mkini
