Wee to BN MBs: Give Harapan reps the same allocation

Ayer Hitam parliamentarian Wee Ka Siong has asked BN-led Pahang and Perlis to provide equal allocations to all assemblypersons in the two states, irrespective of which party they are from.
In a Facebook posting today, Wee stated that he had officially written to the two states' chief executives on this matter.
"This morning, I wrote to Pahang menteri besar (Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail) and Perlis menteri besar (Azlan Man) to propose fair and equal allocation (the same amount) to all state assemblypersons there regardless of party.
"My proposal was immediately followed up with official letters which were faxed to the two offices of the menteris besar. We should not discriminate and punish the rakyat from any one place." he wrote.
Wee added that he hoped the federal Pakatan Harapan government would be able to govern the country even better and more fairly than the previous BN-regime.
"Let us all work towards shaping a new Malaysia," he posted.
In a copy of his letter to Wan Rosdy, uploaded together with his social media posting, Wee had stated that the same amount of allocation is accorded to both BN and opposition Harapan assemblypersons for the purpose of development and for their service centres.
Wee is the sole MCA parliamentarian to emerge after the party, along with the rest in BN coalition, took in heavy losses at last month's general election.
BN was only able to retain two states, Pahang and Perlis, in the peninsula, while the rest was lost to Harapan, with PAS retaining Kelantan and winning back Terengganu.
Wee was following up on his comments yesterday in which he chastised the ruling Harapan administration of the significantly smaller annual allocation to be provided for BN parliamentarians, just 20 percent of that to be given to Harapan members of Parliament.
While admitting that the move to allocate funds for opposition MPs was a welcomed one as this was not done by BN in the past, he said the disparity in the amount announced by the cabinet to be given contradicted Harapan's election promise to be fair to all MPs.
Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad had on Wednesday announced that an annual allocation of RM500,000 would be given to Harapan MPs, while RM100,000 would go to opposition lawmakers. -Mkini
