Yoursay: Selangor MB fiasco – PKR has to sort out its factional feud

YOURSAY | Or we may end up with a government that we worked so hard to change.
Abasir: This unsavoury turn of events in the selection of Selangor menteri besar underscores the following three points:
1. The so-called nomination process is tainted by the extra-constitutional practice of requiring three names to be submitted to the palace.
2. PKR deputy president Azmin Ali is not as straight as he is made out to be.
3. PKR is the weakest link in Pakatan Harapan and more likely to be Umno in all that it does.
And based on point 3, we may conclude that if Pakatan Harapan disintegrates, the root cause will be PKR.
Anonymous_1527774100: The Selangor MB must be elected or appointed by the consensus and agreement of all Harapan parties. Otherwise, it is definitely not acceptable.
It is the rakyat that voted Harapan in GE14, not any individual party.
Anewday: The people/parties who gave letters of support for PKR's Ijok state assemblyperson Dr Idris Ahmad should speak up now. Otherwise, why support him?
If what Idris said is untrue, say it. Please don't prioritise yourselves or your parties over the people's needs.
Once the rot starts, it never stops and we will end up with a government that we worked so hard to change.
The new government has much goodwill and can surely survive some intra-party disputes, or even a scandal. Right now, transparency trumps all else.
Caripasal: A no-confidence motion must be tabled in the state assembly immediately. Amanah, DAP and Bersatu must stand together to right the wrong. We cannot tolerate this nonsense anymore.
Let's have a show of hands in the state assembly for us to identify those real evils.
Wira: Shouldn't the menteri besar be recommended to the sovereign by the Harapan presidential council following the recommendation of the candidate(s) by the respective party heads?
The way Harapan handled the nomination and list to the sultan is very amateurish, thus rendering the sovereign having to exercise his discretion because he is unsure which the person the coalition wanted for menteri besar.
Anonymous 770241447347646: Parties change but human nature does not. Let go of the politics and concentrate on the interest of the millions of inhabitants. Their needs are more important than these few politicians.
Remember what happened on May 9, where some politicians put their needs above the people. Stop repeating their mistakes.
Clever Voter: It's counter-productive speculating the events leading to the appointment of the new MB. All parties can endorse their choice of candidate or candidates, the final approval rests with the sultan.
It's obvious their choice is in line with the ruler's preference. It's already decided, the new appointee has to lead with the rest. The quality of his leadership will be tested.
No doubt there will be doubts, and bias. But life goes on, every threat comes with opportunity.
Anonymous_d395a08d: There should be only one MB candidate endorsed by the majority of the assemblypersons.
And the palace must fulfil its constitutional obligation to appoint the sole candidate who receives the majority support. Any deviation is against the constitution and wishes of the people.
Fair Play: Azmin is very ambitious and therefore also very dangerous. The only way to curb him is not to let PKR get the most seats in any state assembly, especially Selangor, and parliamentary seats.
Who knows? He might even usurp Anwar Ibrahim as the PKR president in the future.
Proarte: Dr Idris Ahmad is known to be an unashamed Anwar loyalist and promoter. It is this fact alone that ruled him out of the race.
With regard to the corruption allegations, greed knows no bounds. The doctor should know that whether he owns an RM8 million house or earning exorbitant sums doing a single operation is irrelevant.
In fact, he does himself and the medical profession a disservice by flaunting his wealth and earning capacity.
The pertinent issue is whether he was involved in fraud. Let the authorities investigate.
The Wakandan: Azmin was the MB before the election. Unless there is an understanding or decision that the MB should be replaced by a new one, usually the incumbent would seek swearing-in as soon as possible after being re-elected if his party had won.
The case in point was in Penang, where a new chief minister was chosen to replaced Lim Guan Eng. Otherwise, without this understanding, the incumbent would have to continue on.
Hopeful123: Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad would have smelt something fishy. So, he made Azmin a federal minister. Let us see how they play the game now.
Yawkwai: Now, what's going on in PKR? Come on, guys, don't let the opposition laugh at you... we have chosen you to lead us, not to fight for positions.
CL: PKR, you guys were given a strong mandate under the Harapan flag. Cherish it, value it and repay the rakyat with efficiency, hard work and fair play. Don’t bicker and implode.
Remember, the next election is in five years' time. The rakyat may not be so forgiving this time around. -Mkini
