Anwar has 57 unpaid summonses totalling over RM8k, claims social activist

PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has 57 unpaid police summonses totalling RM8,730, according to a social activist.

Mujahidin Zulkiffli said these summons go back all the way to February 1999.
.
The latest summons was issued in March 2016.

These summonses also include the period when Anwar was jailed from April 1999 to Sept 2004 and from Feb 2015 to May 2018.

It included offences such as speeding, obstruction of traffic and running through red lights.

"Although he had been spending a lot of time in prison, he had time to settle these summonses and there's no excuse not to because today, we can simply check them online.

"If he can't check it, his PAs should have. It is a bad example to the rakyat in general if the PM-in-waiting has 57 summonses outstanding," Mujahidin told The Star Online on Friday (Oct 12).

The police summons of an individual or a vehicle can be checked via SMS while the breakdown of the summonses can be sent to an email address.

The Star Online verified that the summonses were that of the PKR president-elect who is contesting the Port Dickson by-election on Saturday (Oct 13).

Port Dickson, which has about 75,770 registered voters, will see a seven-cornered fight between Anwar who is representing Pakatan Harapan, PAS and five other independent candidates.

The Star Online has attempted to contact Anwar on the issue of the summonses.- Star
