Come out early to vote, says EC deputy chairman

PORT DICKSON: The Election Commission (EC) has advised voters to come out and cast their votes in the morning for tomorrow's by-election.

EC deputy chairman Tan Sri Othman Mahmood said this is due to the unpredictable weather, especially in the evening.

"The weather has been unpredictable over the past few days, and it usually rains during the evenings. So we hope that voters will come out in the morning to vote," said Othman at a press conference on Friday (Oct 12).

He said this after inspecting the ballot boxes and preparations for polling on Saturday (Oct 13) here.

.Othman said the EC would provide necessary equipment and facilities such as umbrellas and shuttle services for the voters' convenience.

He added that the EC is expecting a 70% voter turn-out tomorrow.

Othman also advised registered voters to check their details with the EC earlier to avoid confusion during polling day.

Voters can visit the EC's website at www.spr.gov.my, by calling 03-88927018, using the MySPR Semak application or by sending an SMS to 15888 to check their details.

Othman also advised voters to bring their personal identification documents when casting their votes.

A total of 68,317 voters will be deciding on their new lawmaker for Port Dickson.

There are 32 polling centres with 154 streams and 1,403 people on duty to ensure that things run smoothly.

The Port Dickson by-election will see a seven cornered fight between Pakatan Harapan's Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, PAS' Lt-Kol (Rtd) Mohd Nazari Mokhtar, Anwar's former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan and independent candidates Tan Sri Isa Samad, Kan Chee Yuen, Stevie Chan and Lau Seck Yan.- Star
