PD POLLS | The Sri Maha Mariamman temple committee has denied a viral clip on social media claiming that PKR president-elect Anwar Ibrahim was barred from entering the Hindu place of worship in Labuan Pelek, Bandar Sunggala.
“We want to explain that the viral clip is not true. This is the work of those wanting to tarnish Anwar's name,” said temple chairperson N Balakrishnan.
He said the committee invited Anwar, who is contesting in the Port Dickson by-election, to the temple on Oct 7 to discuss a land issue.
“Anwar agreed to attend. When he came, there was a slight commotion due to a dispute with another group which had nothing to do with Anwar.
“To calm the situation, Anwar decided to leave. However, he promised to send a representative to hear our grouses (about the temple's land). And yesterday, we met the representative,” he added.
Meanwhile, Anwar's aide R Suresh Kumar confirmed that he met with the committee.
“I came here on the orders of Anwar. He asked me to listen to their problems. Anwar also asked me to resolve the dispute between the two groups during the earlier incident,” he added.
Suresh said the temple committee had also requested a meeting with Anwar after this Saturday's by-election.
The PKR leader would be facing six challengers – five independents and PAS candidate Mohd Nazari Mokhtar.
The by-election was called after the incumbent from PKR, Danyal Balagopal Abdullah, vacated the seat in order for Anwar to contest and return to Parliament. - Mkini
