Malacca state exco Norhizam Hassan Baktee has apologised for his outburst during a dialogue with residents over the closure of a road.
“I apologise for the harsh language during yesterday's incident and will work towards improving my weakness in the communication aspect when faced with such situations and pledge to continue serving the people and the state,” he said in a media statement this evening.
The DAP state assemblyperson also conceded that a video clip of the incident, which had gone viral on social media, has affected his and the state government's image.
Explaining the road closure, Norhizam also said he has a responsibility to ensure the well-being of the people, especially his constituents.
He said those in the area were concerned about safety since there were several accidents involving children.
Earlier, Malacca Chief Minister Adly Zahari conveyed the state government's apology over the incident, which he attributed to a lack of experience.
“The state government apologises because there may be shortcomings which led to such an incident.
“We have discussed the matter during the state exco meeting and will carry out improvements to him (Norhizam), especially with regard to his communication skills,” he was quoted as saying by Sinar Harian.
Prior to this, Norhizam had claimed that he transforms into the “Hulk” when his constituents are bullied and blamed the incident on an “Umno branch leader” for provoking him with a barrage of questions.
"I have to admit that I am short-tempered, and the man knew that and how to provoke me.
“I am not a sissy and wouldn't kowtow to tactics used by my foes to paint a negative picture that I'm a rowdy and loudmouthed leader," he had said.
Earlier, Malacca DAP secretary Khoo Poay Tiong also urge Norhizam to apologise for his action. - Mkini
