‘IF ZAHID FOUND GUILTY, OUR DEPUTY MOHAMAD HASSAN WILL TAKE OVER AS ACTING PRESIDENT’: ONLY LOKMAN ADAM & GANG UPSET, OTHERS IN UMNO ALREADY HAVE ‘PLAN B’ IN MIND

UMNO president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s graft allegations will not derail its reforms, said party leaders.
Zahid will face the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission for the third time today.
The party leaders see this as a ploy by the Pakatan Harapan government to smear Umno and demoralise the grassroots.
They said it is also to divert attention away from PH’s failure to fulfill its election promises.
Rumours that Zahid will be arrested today and charged have been swirling for weeks even before the Umno general assembly a fortnight ago.
Supreme Council member Lokman Noor Adam said hauling up Zahid is to divert attention from PH’s inability to fulfil its manifesto promises.
“This is to break our grassroots’ spirit. This is to distract attention. The economy is not good, the ringgit is weak and there are other problems,”   Lokman told The Malaysian Insight.
Zahid was asked to be present at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya at 10am today. In July, MACC grilled the former deputy prime minister twice in relation to the Akal Budi Foundation.
It was reported that RM800,000 had allegedly been misappropriated from the foundation to pay for credit card bills belonging to Zahid and his wife.
The Bagan Datuk MP admitted that funds from the foundation were used to clear credit card debts but said it was due to a mistake by his officer.

Lokman plans to hold a protest outside the MACC today but Zahid has ordered members not to do this.
“Ahmad Zahid feels he may not be detained but if he is arrested, I will go ahead with my plan to protest,” he said.
Another Umno Supreme Council member Jalaluddin Alias said Zahid has not discussed nor disclosed what case MACC was pursuing against him.
“We are not sure why he is being called up. He never told us. But if it is politically motivated, we are not going to let it pass without any protest. Even if he is charged with anything, it does not make him guilty of anything,” Jalaluddin said.
“As our president, his position is not jeopardised. If he is found guilty and sentenced, our deputy Mohamad Hassan will take over as acting president,” said the Jelebu MP, adding that the party’s plans and direction will not be derailed.
Perak Umno liaison committee chairman Saarani Mohamad accused PH of acting against Zahid as Umno remains relevant in the new Malaysia landscape and a threat to the new government.
“What is being done is unfair. Lim Guan Eng gets off while Zahid is being investigated,” he said, referring to Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng’s recent acquittal over a corruption charge.
“Umno’s strength is its grassroots and they are still loyal to the party,”   said the Kota Tampan assemblyman.
Zahid said in a Facebook post yesterday, he accepts having his charitable deed of helping tahfiz pupils classified as corruption and money laundering.

“I was only doing charity work to build a maahad tahfiz (tahfiz school) for pupils who have memorised 30 chapters of the Quran from all over the country, so that they can sit for the SPM and attain an al-Hafiz certificate as well as a Quranic studies diploma, which will enable them to further their studies at universities here and abroad.
“(This) investigation will be conducted on allegations of graft and Amla (Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001) concerning donations and my personal funding. All these funds in an account were managed by a law firm as a trust fund,” he said in a statement which was posted on Lokman’s Facebook page.
