PD POLLS | Former Negeri Sembilan menteri besar Mohd Isa Samad has denied sponsoring the “Nasi Arab Damsyik” feast for voters in one of the polling centres for the Port Dickson by-election.
Isa, who is contesting as an independent candidate, said his supporters had dished out the meal on their own.
“It was not me (who sponsored), it was my supporters. Even PAS people ate,” he told reporters after visiting the polling centre at SK Port Dickson this evening.
Photographs of the free meal served with lamb and chicken at the Sungai Panjang Chinese school in Linggi from 9am to noon have gone viral on social media.
This prompted Pakatan Harapan candidate Anwar Ibrahim to call on the Election Commission (EC) to investigate the matter.
However, Isa pointed out that Harapan also provided free drinking water to voters.
“If they want to complain (about the Nasi Arab), they also gave out free water,” added the former Umno warlord.
Earlier, Malaysiakini reported that those inviting voters to have the Nasi Arab were clad in purple shirts bearing the image of one of the candidates.
Isa and Anwar are among the seven candidates vying for the parliamentary seat. -Mkini
