An aide to former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak has lodged a police report to demand investigations into DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang's claims that several high-profile deaths or murder cases should be reinvestigated.
The redacted report, which was sighted by Malaysiakini, was lodged at the Brickfields district police headquarters at 8.16pm by the complainant, who described his job as a "personal assistant".
The complainant had urged the police to investigate Lim based on a Malaysiakini article where the latter said he would reopen investigations into the deaths of Altantunya Shaariibuu, Kevin Morais, Hussain Najadi, Teoh Beng Hock and Ahmad Sarbani Mohamed, if he were prime minister.
According to the complainant, these cases were all investigated in detail and went through the judicial process. In view of this, he said the police should investigate Lim since the latter said further investigations were necessary.
The complainant said if Lim were truthful and stood by his words that he had information to warrant fresh investigations on these cases, then the latter should furnish it.
"Based on the information from Lim, I urge the police to start fresh investigations on these cases. If the investigations prove that my employer is not involved, I urge the police to clear his name.
"If the allegations by Lim were baseless and were political lies, I urge the police to take legal action against him for making irresponsible statements," he said.
Najib and Lim have been engaged in a tit-for-tat exchange following a court proceeding where an accused in the Morais murder trial accused the former premier of offering a RM3.5 million inducement to plead guilty.
Lim had reacted to the testimony by publicly calling for fresh probes into the abovementioned deaths, a proposal which was quickly supported by Najib.
After a few rounds of trading barbs, Najib then promised that he would ask his aide to lodge a report against himself, based on what Lim said.
Najib had also claimed that the report on the alleged RM3.5 million inducement was mischievous. -Mkini
