Not a free dinner, says organiser who invited Anwar

PD POLLS | The organiser who invited Port Dickson by-election candidate Anwar Ibrahim to its 380-table dinner has clarified that it is not a "free event".
Organising committee treasurer Yong Yee Seng was responding to concerns, especially by electoral reform group Bersih, that the event constitutes vote-buying.
Yong told Malaysiakini that some 3,000 to 4,000 people are expected to attend the event and have paid RM60 each.
He added that there would be about 380 tables and most of the tickets have been sold out.
"We support Anwar, we hope that he can lead Port Dickson in a better direction and benefit the locals here. We want to support his campaign," he said.
The dinner is set to happen tomorrow at the Kuan Ti temple in Lukut.
Yong added that he is not a PKR member and most of the organising committee members are local voters.
Meanwhile, Wong Chee Swee, who is a temple committee member, also said the event was not intended to give out free food and guests are paying to see a line-up of leaders.
“The Chinese community in Port Dickson very much support Anwar.
"Besides inviting Anwar, we have also invited the Negeri Sembilan menteri besar as well as Lukut assemblyperson Choo Ken Hwa.
"But we are not sure if they will attend,” said Wong.
Choo himself had initially raised concerns about the event, stating that offering free treats to attract voters was an unhealthy practice and risked making Pakatan Harapan look like BN.
Anwar is among seven candidates contesting in the Port Dickson by-election. Polling day is this Saturday.
The other six candidates are Mohd Nazari Mokhtar (PAS) and independents Mohd Isa Abdul Samad, Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan, Chan Keng Leong, Kan Chee Yuen and Lau Sek Yan. - Mkini
