'Bossku' receives enthusiastic welcome in Sandakan

SANDAKAN POLLS | With only a few hours left in the Sandakan by-election campaign, former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak has received a highly enthusiastic welcome at his first appearance on the campaign trail to support PBS.
“I am just here, not because I am confident it will swing (the votes) or anything. It is just that I want to show that I still care for the people of Sandakan and Sabah.
“They have been very close to me and when there is an invitation to come and support, I want to do my bit,” he told reporters after his first event in Sandakan.
Najib had participated in a walkabout at Giant Hypermarket in Bandar Utama, where there is also a Ramadan bazaar set up in the parking lot.
Even before he arrived, there was already a large crowd gathered outside the entrance of Giant, awaiting his arrival.
The moment his car stopped in front of the entrance and he rolled down his window, the crowd began chanting his moniker, “Bossku”.
The chanting did not abate as he exited the car, upon which he was immediately mobbed by the euphoric crowd seeking to take selfies with him (photo above), shake his hand and even hug him as he moved towards the hypermarket.
The excited crowd, still chanting ‘Bossku’, followed him throughout as he walked around Giant, examining the price of eggs, fish, and oil, among others.
When he came out of the hypermarket, he joined the Sabah Umno live band stationed near the Ramadan bazaar.
The former premier sang two songs, ‘Tanak Kampung’ by Jimmy Palikat and ‘The Young Ones’ by Cliff Richard, together with Sabah Umno chairperson Bung Moktar Radin (photo below).
“I came here to shop, but there are people who are scared of me shopping here.
“I want to know, it has been a year (since Pakatan Harapan formed the government), what has happened?” he asked the crowd after his impromptu karaoke session.
The crowd shouted back, “Kencing”, a colloquialism for reneging on a promise.
Najib then urged the people to come out to vote for PBS tomorrow, before making his rounds at the Ramadan bazaar. He left shortly after that.
Najib is expected to make another appearance in a meet-the-people session later tonight at Taman Harmoni in Sandakan. - Mkini
