Brunei Sultan extended moratorium on death penalty on gay sex
seeking to temper global backlash
sultan said death penalty would not be imposed in Shariah Penal Code
there are many questions and misperceptions the sultan said
country sparked outcry, punishing sodomy, adultery, rape with stoning
United Nations condemned the law
travel companies stopped promoting Brunei as tourist destination
unusual for Sultan to respond
sultan’s office released official English translation of his speech
which is not common practice
My comments : Obviously the Sultan of Brunei was poorly advised. As this blog has pointed out before, in the Quran, the act of stoning people to death is recorded as the practise of the musyrikeen or the pagans.
Nowhere does the Quran prescribe stoning anyone to death for any reason whatsoever.
The punishment of stoning people is a Jewish teaching from the Jewish theologies. It is not found in the Quran.
I hope the Sultan of Brunei will drop this entire idea of Shariah Punishments. They are not from the Quran.
